TOGETHER, LET'S RESTORE
POLYNESIAN FORESTS
AOA Polynesian Forests is the first initiative in French Polynesia that is committed in the long term to restoring the biodiversity and ecological state of Polynesian forests.
In less than a century, the introduction of invasive plants has seriously unbalanced the terrestrial ecosystems of French Polynesia.
Restoring forests means giving them back their ability to regenerate, by freeing them from invasive species and reintroducing those which, for millennia, have shaped their balance.
It also means carrying out research, innovating, educating and transmitting, so that local communities become the guardians of this living heritage.
Our project is located in Tahiti in the commune of Mataiea in the sacred valley of Mo'aroa. At the heart of a large watershed of 1,000 ha, our estate extends over 230 ha, from the educational forest to the biodiversity sanctuary.
